What to do...

I made these porcelain pieces last week and since then I have been staring at them, trying to figure out just how to glaze them. The first experiment with this type of design (see photo below) was my take on a sort of Scandinavian, mid-century modernist look which, of course, went right out the window when I glazed it. I love the results but it ended up a bit different than I had envisioned so I placed it on a vintage copper snake chain and called it a day. With this new batch I am determined to create an industrial meets antique meets organic kind of feel. So today as I stared at them some more I started to picture them dirty and time-worn, like old watch gears and machine parts. I rubbed them with black oxide stain and then wiped it off leaving it in the crevasses, getting closer to the look I have in mind. I glazed a few in transparent green and put them in the kiln, along with a pile of other pieces, but the rest I will leave alone for a day or two. I need to think about them a little more, do a little more staring...

I totally get what you mean about the watch parts, that is the first thing I thought of, too. What about an aged copper with a bit of green patina?

Very cool pieces, and I too thought of watch parts, cogs, gears, etc., when I first looked at your photo. Very nice!!
